rsync for Debian ---------------- If you still have an init.d based system, you need to edit /etc/default/rsync by hand to set RSYNC_ENABLE=true so that the init.d script will try to start the daemon. Note that this is not necessary for systemd-based systems; i.e. the default in jessie! To override options for the rsync daemon on these systems, copy /lib/systemd/system/rsync.service to /etc/systemd/system/rsync.service and modify the copy; add required options to the ExecStart line. You will need an /etc/rsyncd.conf file as described by the rsyncd.conf manpage for rsync to do anything useful as a daemon (the daemon won't start otherwise); you can look at /usr/share/doc/rsync/examples/rsyncd.conf as an example.
